The Split: Divorce Drama to feature on BBC

The upcoming release of BBC’s new drama The Split this year is drawing attention to the often-high-profile world of divorce law. The show has been described by the BBC as an “authentic, layered and witty exploration of modern marriage and the legacy of divorce”. It follows the lives of a family of female lawyers working on the busy London divorce circuit.

Considering that both our law courts and our TV screens have traditionally been dominated by men, it’s particularly invaluable that The Split is exploring the divorce world through the lens of female lawyers.

The show will debut this year and will be a six-episode drama, starring Stephen Mangan from Episodes and Nicola Walker from River and Last Tango in Halifax alongside Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me), Fiona Button (Lip Service), Deborah Findlay (Leaving), Annabel Scholey (Being Human) and Barry Atsma (Hector and the Search for Happiness).

The world of high profile divorce law as featured in The Split grabs public attention because of the huge assets involved but often much of the drama stems from the emotional upset rather than the amount of money at stake.

Regardless of how much money you have, getting a divorce is an emotionally difficult time and the strain of separating can sometimes cause people to act uncharacteristically. Especially during an acrimonious divorce, most people will feel some combination of stress, anger, sadness and betrayal. These feelings can cloud the judgement of even the most rational person which is why it can be so invaluable to get professional assistance with the legal aspects of your separation. It’s always much easier to see things clearly when you’re outside the situation and legal help can put things into perspective at a time when it’s easy to feel stuck

As The Split will no doubt highlight, a top divorce lawyer can be invaluable in helping their clients navigate through a difficult period with dignity and a legal settlement that reflects the time and commitment they invested in the marriage.

Everyone deserves to receive a fair settlement and have access to an impartial perspective, yet the kind of glitzy legal help featured on the show is out of reach for most of us. It’s important to know, however, that there are options and that nobody should have to go through a divorce alone.

It’s possible to benefit from the extensive knowledge and confidence of top divorce lawyers without the cost associated with directly hiring them.
